Washington – A proposed rule that would modernize OSHA’s reporting system has cleared one regulatory hurdle and could be published soon.
The Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs concluded its review of the proposal Nov. 4. The rule had been under review for nearly two years, far longer than the statutory maximum of 90 days. Extended review periods have occurred frequently with recent rules, most notably OSHA’s silica standard.
OSHA’s proposal would modify its Recording and Reporting Occupational Injuries and Illness Standard (1904.41), which covers the agency’s annual injury and illness survey sent to some employers.
Additional details of the rule are not available because the proposal has yet to be published.
