Office of Management and Budget concludes review of PSM draft

Washington – The Office of Management and Budget has concluded a review of a draft rule that would update OSHA’s Process Safety Management Standard, and the safety agency has formally requested input from the public.

A prerule-stage draft of the revised PSM standard was sent Nov. 9 to OMB, which concluded its review Dec. 3.

In the Dec. 9 Federal Register, OSHA published a request for information on specific rulemaking and policy options, as well as workplace hazards to be addressed.

OSHA issued the RFI following an executive order calling on OSHA and other federal agencies to improve chemical safety in the wake of a series of incidents, including a deadly 2013 fertilizer plant explosion in Texas. Information and data received through the RFI will help shape the actions OSHA will take regarding a potential proposed rule, the agency stated.

Stakeholders have until March 10 to submit comments and supporting material.
