Dallas — A new video from OSHA provides tips on keeping workers safe before, during and after extreme weather events.
“Over the last few weeks in the Dallas region, we’ve had unprecedented storms sweep through the area,” OSHA Region 6 administrator Eric Harbin says in the one-minute video, released June 3. “Personally, I’m alarmed at the number of fatalities that have been reported.”
Among OSHA’s tips: Don’t allow workers to shelter in place in structures that don’t have appropriate protection. The agency details proper shelter-in-place procedures and preparations in an e-tool on its website.

Other tips:
- Make sure employees wear fall protection when working at height.
- Ensure workers have the proper personal protective equipment for tasks such as using a chainsaw to remove debris or working with energized power lines.
