Greenbelt, MD — The results are in for the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s annual Brake Safety Week.
The inspection blitz of trucks and buses, conducted Aug. 20-26, saw nearly 19,000 vehicles inspected, with almost 2,400 – or 12.6% – being placed out of service.
Vehicle inspectors placed special emphasis on brake lining/pads, uncovering nearly 700 violations. In a press release, CVSA notes that although these infractions aren’t necessarily out-of-service violations, they still impact a driver’s safety rating and “may lead to more serious problems” if unaddressed.
Brake Safety Week is part of Brake Safety Awareness Month. The event takes place in conjunction with CVSA’s Operation Airbrake campaign – a program conducted in partnership with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators, and Mexico’s National Guard and Ministry of Communications and Transportation.
Next year’s event is scheduled for Aug. 25-31.
