Editor’s Note: A longtime partnership

Here at Safety+Health, we’ve always appreciated our longtime partnership with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.

We hope you’ve had a chance to check out BCSP’s quarterly column in S+H – part of our rotation of content on the magazine’s back page. We welcome the viewpoints that the board’s contributors provide.

And we’re very pleased to have teamed up with BCSP again for our 2023 Salary Survey.

I’ve mentioned this in previous editor’s notes, but the survey fatigue that so many organizations have experienced has affected us. Over the past few years, we’ve seen lower response rates to our annual surveys. And we understand – just like you, we’re inundated with survey requests in our professional and personal lives.

Not even the Bureau of Labor Statistics is immune. In a March “Commissioner’s Corner” blog post, the agency acknowledged that “response rates to most federal surveys have been declining for many years.”

That said, surveys are still our best way to take the pulse of the safety community. And we know from the feedback we receive that many of you appreciate the data. So, it’s important to us that the results are accurate. The more responses we receive, the more accurate the data.

We’re happy to report that teaming up with BCSP again bumped up our Salary Survey response rate considerably. We’re especially grateful to BCSP’s Lisa Spencer, who did the heavy lifting on coordinating the survey and is wonderful to work with.

On our end, Senior Graphic Designer Mike Sharkey worked with National Safety Council Statistics Manager Ken Kolosh to make sure the data is presented correctly. Please check it out. We’re always open to feedback, so if you have thoughts, suggestions or comments, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
