Washington — The eighth annual National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction is set to kick off on May 3 with a webinar hosted by OSHA, NIOSH, and CPWR – the Center for Construction Research and Training.
A panel of experts, including acting OSHA administrator Jim Frederick, will discuss the latest data on the underlying causes of falls, OSHA enforcement and incident rates. The other panelists:
- John Howard, NIOSH director
- Scott Ketcham, director of OSHA’s Directorate of Construction
- G. Scott Earnest, acting director of the NIOSH Office of Construction Safety and Health
- Chris Cain, CPWR executive director
Falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of construction worker deaths, accounting for 401 in 2019, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The webinar also will feature fall prevention resources and real-life stories.
