‘Stand Tall’: Annual wind energy safety campaign spotlights sprains and strains

Washington — The American Wind Energy Association is offering free resources in October in conjunction with its annual monthlong worker safety awareness campaign.

Intended to help protect renewable energy workers from injury, this year’s campaign, titled Stand Tall, places an emphasis on preventing sprains and strains associated with handling, lifting and carrying – the leading causes of injury among workers around wind turbines, AWEA data shows.

Online resources aimed at educating employers and workers about sprain and strain prevention include:

  • An on-demand webinar
  • A PowerPoint presentation for training use
  • Two hard hat stickers
  • Two posters
  • A video on proper tactics for dynamic stretching

“American wind power is always seeking to improve workplace safety culture as our wind workers head out every day to provide clean, reliable electricity for millions of Americans,” AWEA CEO Tom Kiernan said in an Oct. 1 press release.
