Washington — A new OSHA safety alert lists measures employers should take to protect stockroom and loading dock workers during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Along with encouraging workers to stay home when sick and report any health concerns, OSHA recommends employers routinely clean and disinfect equipment and surfaces. When disinfecting, use products listed by the Environmental Protection Agency as effective against the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19.

Other recommendations:
- Coordinate with vendors and delivery companies to decrease contact between workers and delivery drivers.
- Stock shelves, freezers, etc., during slow periods or when the store is closed to minimize contact with the public.
- Use barriers or markers to separate employees and customers if stocking needs to be done while the store is open.
- Maintain at least 6 feet between co-workers and customers, whenever possible.
- Limit the number of customers in the store.
- Allow workers to wear masks over their nose and mouth.
- Provide a handwashing station or hand sanitizers containing at least 60% alcohol.
- Discourage workers from sharing tools or equipment, or disinfect after each use any tools that are shared.
