Washington — The Chemical Safety Board is developing interactive training based on OSHA’s Process Safety Management Standard (1910.119).
Announced in a video published March 23, the training will include the 14 elements of the PSM Standard and will use the 2005 explosion at BP’s Texas City, TX, refinery as an example. The event killed 15 people and injured 180 others.
“The massive explosion was a landmark investigation for the CSB and revealed safety gaps at refineries across the country,” the agency states in a corresponding press release.
The video, released on the 15th anniversary of the event, features an updated animation of the explosion.
“The lessons learned from the BP Texas City event reverberate 15 years later,” CSB interim Executive Authority Kristen Kulinowski said in the release. “We hope that this new version allows more viewers to learn from the findings and recommendations issued by the board that remain relevant years later.”
