Itasca, IL — The National Safety Council has announced a new partner in its Check To Protect initiative, intended to raise awareness about open recalls on vehicles.
The National Independent Automobile Dealers Association joins the Governors Highway Safety Association, National Auto Auction Association, National Automobile Dealers Association and more than a dozen states in working with NSC to help reduce the number of vehicle recalls for which repairs have not been made.
NIADA will work with NSC to “promote the campaign and develop innovative strategies to fix recalls in member dealers’ inventories,” the council states in a Sept. 24 press release.
“The Check To Protect initiative aligns perfectly with NIADA’s long-standing efforts to see that 100 percent of recalled vehicles are repaired,” NIADA CEO Steve Jordan said in the release. “While independent dealers by law cannot make recall repairs themselves, the association and its member dealers will work through Check To Protect to make sure used car inventory is checked for recalls and that any open recalls are repaired prior to sale.”
The Check To Protect initiative was launched in June 2017 as a collaboration between NSC and founding partner Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US.
