Washington – The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement has expanded its near-miss reporting system to include the confidential collection of equipment failure reports, in an effort to further improve the safety of offshore oil and gas operations.
Effective Oct. 26, the SafeOCS program gives industry professionals the option to submit failure reports for well control equipment under the Well Control Rule. And as of Nov. 7, professionals are required to submit, through SafeOCS, reports on pollution prevention equipment failure as mandated by the Production Safety Systems Rule. According to a BSEE press release, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics will analyze the data to explore safety trends.
“We are encouraging industry to quickly begin taking advantage of the SafeOCS expansion,” BSEE Director Brian Salerno said in the release. “Shared awareness of safety trends better equips us all to quickly focus on emerging issues and thereby drive down the risk of serious incidents.”
