Washington – The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is seeking public comment on two proposed changes to its Compliance, Safety, Accountability program Safety Measurement System website.
The two changes are:
- Raising the minimum number of reportable crashes needed to establish the data sufficiency standard in the Crash Indicator BASIC from two to three
- Assigning BASIC percentiles only to motor carriers that have had an inspection with a violation during the past year instead of the past two years
FMCSA introduced the proposed enhancements to the system in June 2015, and followed that up with a notice published in the Oct. 5 Federal Register.

As required in Section 5221 of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act, neither of the proposed changes will go live on the website until after a National Academies of Sciences Correlation Study is completed.
At press time, the agency had scheduled four question-and-answer sessions in October.
The deadline to comment is Dec. 3.
