Washington – OSHA has awarded a total of $10.5 million to 77 organizations for safety and health training programs.
The funds are part of the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program, which aims to help nonprofit organizations create programs that protect workers across industries. The one-year grants fund efforts for employers and workers to recognize, avoid and prevent hazards in the workplace.
“Education and training help employers keep our nation’s workers safe and healthy, especially in high-hazard industries,” Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez said in a press release. “Organizations receiving the Susan Harwood Training Grants we are awarding today help employees and employers create safer, healthier workplaces.”
The largest grant, $526,500, was awarded to the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health in San Diego to provide training to workers in the construction, health care, restaurant, warehousing, landscaping, waste and recycling, industrial laundry, janitorial and cleaning services, agriculture, and retail industries.
According to OSHA, the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program, created in 1978, has helped about 2.1 million workers.
