USFA teams with Sesame Street on fire safety guide

Emmitsburg, MD – Looking for a way to teach young children about fire safety? All you have to know is how to get to Sesame Street.

The U.S. Fire Administration has partnered with Sesame Workshop on a new version of the Sesame Street Fire Safety Program. Released Oct. 6, the program is intended for children 3 to 5 years old. It includes downloadable materials such as a family guide, a coloring booklet and songs – all of which feature Elmo, Cookie Monster and other Sesame Street characters.

A majority of child fire-related deaths occur among children younger than 5. The new program offers safety messages important for children, including staying away from something hot, what to do when you hear a beeping smoke alarm and how to follow a fire escape plan.
