Notable/Quotable

Occasionally, someone says something about safety I find noteworthy. In today’s post, OSHA administrator David Michaels justifies why data OSHA collected under a new rule will be publicly available.

“We're a public agency. Our work is public. This continues that process. When we get a report and we do an investigation, that’s public.”

– David Michaels, OSHA administrator

The statement came during a Sept. 11 press conference, after Michaels was questioned about a comment he made when announcing the final rule updating recordkeeping and reporting requirements. Michaels said data collected under the final rule could be accessed by the public on OSHA’s website, as is available now with the current rule.
