Washington – OSHA has awarded $10.7 million in grants to 78 nonprofit organizations to help fund safety education and training for workers and employers.
Announced Sept. 8, the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program recipients include community- and faith-based organizations, employer associations, labor unions, and colleges and universities.
The following types of grants were awarded:
- Targeted Topic Training – $4.6 million to 39 organizations to support development of training and materials to help address workplace hazards
- Capacity Building Pilot and Development – $2.8 million to 15 organizations
- Capacity Building Development follow-on – $3.3 million to 24 organizations that received Capacity Building Development grants in fiscal year 2013
About 2 million workers have been trained under the grant program since its inception in 1978, according to OSHA administrator David Michaels.
“The Susan Harwood Training Grant Program is an essential component of OSHA’s efforts to provide workers in high-risk industries with training about job hazards and their rights, and I am thrilled to see what our grantees will do,” he said in a press release.
