Research Triangle Park, NC – The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences is seeking applications for cooperative agreements to develop model programs for hazardous materials safety training.
According to NIEHS, the goal of the funding opportunity is to prevent work-related harm by helping train and educate workers in the Department of Energy Nuclear Weapons Complex.
Tens of thousands of DOE employees require safety and health training, according to NIEHS, which leads a worker training program to help protect those who deal with hazardous materials and waste generation, removal, containment, transportation and emergency response.
A cooperative agreement is similar to a grant but includes more involvement and guidance from a federal agency. In this case, the National Institutes of Health intends to fund seven to 12 awards, totaling $9.5 million, for fiscal year 2015. A new applicant may request a budget for direct costs of up to $700,000 in the first year, and the maximum project period is five years.
Eligible applicants include public and private higher education institutions, as well as nonprofit organizations. The deadline to apply is Nov. 6.
