MSHA seeking info on refuge alternatives in coal mines

Arlington, VA – The Mine Safety and Health Administration has announced two actions related to refuge alternatives in underground coal mines.

In the Aug. 8 Federal Register, MSHA requested comments and information regarding escape and refuge of miners during an emergency. In a separate notice, the agency announced it was reopening the record of the refuge alternative final rule that was published Dec. 31, 2008, for 60 days.

Comments on both notices are due Oct. 7.
