Washington – The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration defended the safety benefits for small businesses of its Compliance, Safety, Accountability program at a July 11 hearing before the House Small Business Committee.
CSA, when compared to the agency’s previous safety compliance system SafeStat, allows FMCSA to better identify small carriers that pose safety hazards to roadways, with fewer interruptions to the carriers’ business operations and service, FMCSA Deputy Administrator William A. Bronrott stated.
Owners of small trucking companies who testified at the hearing claimed CSA fails to determine which companies are safe or unsafe and cannot adequately reflect improvements the carriers make to their safety scores, according to a press release from the Grain Valley, MO-based Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association.
FMCSA announced March 27 that it would be making improvements to CSA’s safety measurement system.
