Falls Church, VA – A new white paper (.pdf file) from the American Industrial Hygiene Association calls for OSHA to reform its standards-setting process, increase penalties and apply performance-based approaches. The recommendations are among 17 that AIHA said OSHA should address over the next five years.
The white paper, issued June 17, focuses on key areas outlined in the Department of Labor’s 2011-2016 Strategic Plan (.pdf file) and emphasizes the need for OSHA and NIOSH to receive adequate funding.
Other recommendations include expanding OSHA coverage to all workers, encouraging employers to obtain third-party assistance, enhancing opportunities for employee participation and updating permissible exposure limits.
