Atlanta –The percentage of adults 20 and older with high total cholesterol levels declined by 27 percent from 1999 to 2010, according to a data brief (.pdf file) released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics.
Researchers analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, which collected information through interviews, physical examinations and laboratory tests, and found 13.4 percent of adults 20 and older had high total cholesterol in 2009-2010, compared with 18.3 percent in 1999-2000.
About 14.3 percent of women and 12.2 percent of men had high total cholesterol in 2009-2010, according to the report.
