Arson Awareness Week to focus on youth fire prevention

Emmitsburg, MD – The theme of Arson Awareness Week – May 6-12 – will be youth fire prevention, the U.S. Fire Administration recently announced.

USFA will be working with officials in fire and emergency service departments, law enforcement, mental health and social services, schools, and juvenile justice to reduce the number of young adults who play with fire, the agency said.

USFA offers the following fire safety tips:

  • Teach young children that fire is a tool and not a toy.
  • Keep matches and lighters out of the reach of children.
  • Use matches, lighters and fire safely to set a good example.
  • Always supervise young children around fire.
