Additional Job Outlook survey statistics

  • 22 percent of respondents plan to increase staff in the next 12 months. Of those respondents, most are in the manufacturing industry. In addition, of the respondents who plan to increase staff in the next 12 months, most had increased staff in the past six months.

  • 63 percent of respondents did not plan to change staffing or did not know how staffing would change in the next 12 months, while 15 percent of respondents plan to decrease staffing in the next 12 months.
  • 68 percent of respondents work for an organization that does not outsource any portion of its safety program – down from 71 percent of respondents in the Job Outlook 2010 survey.
  • 32 percent of respondents were in the manufacturing industry. Of those, most said the role of the environmental health and safety professional will expand in the next five years.
