Washington – Many workers feel stressed out, undervalued and dissatisfied with their job, according to a survey (.pdf file) released March 8 by the American Psychological Association.
Conducted online between Jan. 31 and Feb. 8, the survey found that 36 percent of the workforce experiences work stress regularly. Although nearly half of respondents cited low salary as having a significant impact on their stress levels, other factors commonly cited included lack of opportunities for advancement (43 percent), heavy workload (43 percent), unrealistic job expectations (40 percent) and long hours (39 percent).
Slightly more than one-half of workers reported feeling valued on the job, while nearly one-third reported they intend to seek employment elsewhere in the coming year.
