OMB extends review on MSD column rule

The Office of Management and Budget is taking a closer look at a controversial proposed rule from OSHA.

OSHA wants to add a column to its 300 Log in which employers would be required to record work-related musculoskeletal disorders. The final rule was submitted to OMB’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs for review on July 14, but that review has been extended.

OIRA typically has a review period of 90 days, but that period can be extended at either the request of the OMB director or the agency that submitted the rule. When questioned about the extension of the review period for the proposed MSD rule, an OMB spokesperson said more time was required due to the rule’s complexity.
