Federal OSHA has opened an area office in Hawaii, a State Plan program participant.
The new Honolulu office is part of OSHA’s ongoing attempt to increase oversight and coordination with states that operate their own OSHA program. Earlier this month, OSHA announced it opened offices in Arizona, California and Nevada.
Last year, the Nevada-operated program came under heavy scrutiny following a report (.pdf file) that found deficiencies in the program, and federal officials admitted to insufficient oversight. Reports on the other 26 State Plan programs are expected, but they had not been released as of deadline.
