In an effort to identify safety issues related to a growing population of older drivers, the National Transportation Safety Board is scheduled to host a public forum Nov. 9-10.
According to a press release, the forum will take place in Washington, and will involve representatives from the academic and research community, trade associations, nonprofit and advocacy groups, the automobile industry, and federal and state government agencies involved in occupant safety and highway design.
According to NTSB, 30 million drivers 65 and older are licensed in the United States. This population is projected to grow in the next 15 years, comprising more than 20 percent of the driving population.

- Safety risks of aging drivers
- Occupant protection for aging drivers and passengers
- Highway and vehicle design improvements
- Assessing driver performance, refresher training and driver rehabilitation
- State programs and practices
