Greenbelt, MD — Now available: results of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s 38th annual International Roadcheck.
During the three-day event in May, CVSA-certified inspectors across North America – many from law enforcement – conducted more than 56,000 inspections. They checked brake systems, lights, tires and other equipment on commercial trucks and buses.
CVSA says 18.1% of the vehicles and 5.9% of their drivers were placed out of service. Brake systems accounted for 24.4% of vehicle out-of-service violations, followed by tires (21.4%). The top two causes of driver out-of-service violations were hours of service (32.4%) and no commercial driver’s license (24.4%).
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration participates in the International Roadcheck program, along with the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators; Transport Canada; and Mexico’s Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation.
Next year’s Roadcheck is slated for May 12-14.
