By the time you read this, chances are good that you’ve experienced, or are about to experience, some very warm weather.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, July is, on average, the hottest month of the year in the United States. So, although the Safety+Health team keeps a year-round eye on regulation and legislation aimed at protecting workers from heat, this is a fitting time to pull some of that news together. In his article this month, Associate Editor Alan Ferguson offers an overview of what’s been happening both at federal OSHA and the state level.
Although many of you live in states in which workers are covered under federal OSHA, we believe that keeping you informed on what’s happening throughout the country is important.
In every print issue of S+H, you’ll find a State News box within the “In the News” section. But what’s there is only part of our state coverage. The best ways to make sure you’re not missing any news are to subscribe to The Safety+Health Daily newsletter; visit our website; and follow us on LinkedIn, X and Facebook. (National Safety Council members: You can also find us on NSC Communities.)
Another summery topic we’re presenting this month is less serious – but can still have impact: Associate Editor Barry Bottino looks at what it takes to organize a workplace safety fair. He talks with some safety pros about their experiences and how these events bring together employers, manufacturers, local agencies and others in the community to create a positive atmosphere and share safety, health and wellness information with workers and their families.
Whatever state you live and work in, I hope you have a safe summer.
