Greenbelt, MD — The results of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s annual Brake Safety Week are in.
The inspection blitz of trucks and buses was conducted Aug. 25-31. Of the nearly 17,000 vehicles inspected, more than 2,100 (12.8%) were placed out of service.
Vehicle inspectors placed special emphasis on brake linings and pads, uncovering more than 650 violations.
“The goal is to reduce the number of crashes caused by faulty braking systems on commercial motor vehicles by conducting roadside inspections and educating drivers, mechanics, owner-operators and others on the importance of proper brake inspection, maintenance and operation,” CVSA says in a press release.
Brake Safety Week is part of Brake Safety Awareness Month. The event takes place in conjunction with CVSA’s Operation Airbrake campaign – a program conducted in partnership with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators, and Mexico’s National Guard and Ministry of Communications and Transportation.
Next year’s event is set for Aug. 24-30.
