Washington — Continuing its effort to increase agency transparency, the Chemical Safety Board has published additional information on 30 serious chemical releases.
It marks CSB’s third volume of expanded incident summaries, probable causes and other details – information that hasn’t previously been released to the public and extends beyond the data required under the agency’s accidental release reporting rule.
The incidents occurred in 15 states between April 2020 and this past January, causing two deaths, 25 serious injuries and about $1.8 billion in property damage.
In January, CSB unveiled an initial compilation of expanded information related to 26 serious chemical releases. The agency released a second volume, covering 25 incidents, in March.
“This third volume of reports reflects the CSB’s continued commitment to keeping the American people informed about the serious incidents that occur every week across this country and the risks that these incidents pose to communities and workers, as well as the enormous economic impact that they have on the American chemical industry,” CSB Chair Steve Owens said in a July 22 press release.
