Baltimore – The estimated rate of children hospitalized due to drowning incidents declined 49 percent between 1993 and 2008, according to a study from the Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy and the Arkansas Children's Hospital Injury Prevention Center.

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board found that Hoeganaes Corp. did not take steps to prevent the accumulation of fine iron powder at its facility in Gallatin, TN, where flash fires and an explosion killed five workers last year. A safety video depicts each incident at the facility.
