Washington – People caught aiming laser pointers at airplanes could face fines and up to five years of jail time, according to a bill passed Feb. 28 by the House.

FMCSA wants funding increase for CSA program

Washington – The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has requested a significant increase in funding for its Compliance, Safety, Accountability program to oversee safety of commercial motor vehicles, according to a Government Accountability Office report released Feb. 25.

Columbus, OH – The rate of boxing injuries treated in emergency rooms nationwide increased significantly between 1990 and 2008, according to a study released Feb. 28 by the Center for Injury Research and Policy of the Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

MSHA extends comment period for work examination rule

Arlington, VA – The comment period for a proposed rule on weekly examinations of work areas in underground coal mines will be extended through March 28, the Mine Safety and Health Administration announced March 1.
