Two changes to Indiana’s Move Over Law went into effect July 1 in an effort to further protect emergency and highway personnel from injury and death.
The changes require motorists to reduce their vehicle speed 10 mph below the posted speed limit if they cannot move to an adjacent lane safely. Motorists also must move over for utility service vehicles. Police advise motorists to not stop in the roadway.
Violating the law is a Class A infraction and can result in a fine and license suspension of up to two years if emergency workers are injured or killed, or if emergency equipment is damaged.
