CSB to release findings from Bayer blast

Washington – Findings from an investigation into the August 2008 Bayer CropScience facility explosion in West Virginia that killed two workers will be released at a public meeting Jan. 20, the Chemical Safety Board announced.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Institute, WV. During the meeting, CSB staff will present key findings from the investigation, including hazards analysis, operating training, and emergency planning and response. Witnesses also are expected to speak on the findings and a public comment period.

Following the presentation and public comment, board members will vote on whether or not to approve the final report and its recommendations.

“We hope that our conclusions and recommendations will prevent a similar accident from happening and that lives of workers will be saved and threats to communities diminished,” CSB Chair Rafael Moure-Eraso said in a press release.
