In response to inspections that uncovered numerous electrical safety violations at multiple sites, the Department of Labor filed a complaint asking the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission to order the U.S. Postal Service to correct the violations at all USPS processing and distribution facilities.
DOL warned that the violations increase the risk of electrical shock injuries and electrocutions. This is the first time the agency has sought to force an entity to correct a violation at all of its sites as a remedy, according to an OSHA press release.
Although most public employees are not covered by federal OSHA, USPS in 1988 became subject (.pdf file) to the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
