Washington – January is National Radon Action Month, and the Environmental Protection Agency is encouraging people to check the radon levels in their homes.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is colorless and odorless. Approximately 1 in 15 homes in the United States are estimated to have high radon levels, and radon leads to approximately 21,000 lung cancer deaths every year, according to EPA.
If your home has not been tested in the past two years, EPA and the Surgeon General recommend doing so. Contact your local radon office for information on test kits and testers.
