The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on Oct. 7 ordered Greeley, CO-based JBS Carriers Inc. to install electronic onboard recorders on its entire fleet of more than 700 commercial trucks.
FMCSA stated in a Nov. 4 press release that the order was issued after an investigation revealed the company was in serious violation of hours-of-service rules and commercial driver’s license requirements.
JBS must install the EOBRs by March 2011 or pay $81,780 in civil fines. The settlement agreement also requires JBS to train drivers on proper use of EOBRs and develop a safety management system that includes EOBR data in HOS oversight.
In related news, FMCSA on Nov. 5 announced it placed two bus companies out of service for violating federal safety regulations. Mid-Florida Extraditions Inc. of Melbourne, FL, was placed out of service and fined $2,170 for violating HOS and insurance requirements. Houston-based Pegasso Caballero Tours was placed out of service and fined $1,470 for violating vehicle maintenance requirements.
