FRA launches train safety tool

A new train simulator acquired by the Federal Railroad Administration will help prevent train accidents caused by human error, officials said on March 23.

According to an FRA press release, the $1.6 million Cab Technology Integration Laboratory is designed to permit researchers to simulate realistic innumerable conditions and scenarios encountered during railroad operations to help them identify safety hazards and develop solutions. The train simulator, constructed by McLean, VA-based Alion Science and Technology, will be located at the Department of Transportation’s Volpe National Transportation Systems in Cambridge, MA.
