A bill that would compel federal agencies to write documents in easy-to-understand language passed the House March 17.
The Plain Writing Act of 2010 (H.R. 946), which has companion legislation awaiting a vote in the full Senate, would require publications, forms and other public documents from the federal government to be written in a “clear, concise, well-organized” style.
The bill cleared the House in a 386-33 vote during Sunshine Week, a national initiative supporting open government and freedom of information.
