Drivers attempting to make a left turn in Michigan will see new flashing yellow arrow signals installed as part of a nationwide upgrade on traffic control devices.
Officials on Oct. 20 released a YouTube video explaining how the new traffic signals work. Lights were installed this month at various locations. Installation of the lights in Minnesota took place in September at various locations.
According to the Federal Highway Administration, use of the flashing yellow arrow signals is expected to expand nationwide, giving drivers a clearer indication of when to turn left after yielding to opposing traffic. FHWA approved the lights in 2009 as part of upgrades to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices — the national standard for all traffic control devices.
