Arlington, VA – The Mine Safety and Health Administration on Oct. 4 introduced a new resource (.pdf file) that aims to help workers with machine guarding compliance.
The guide includes examples of proper guarding and compliance information for specific types of equipment. It is a follow-up to MSHA’s 2010 compliance guide for conveyer belts.
According to MSHA, guards that are missing, in the wrong position, heavy or otherwise difficult to handle may lead to injuries. Guarding-related citations and orders are down almost 40 percent from 2010, an MSHA press release stated.
