National Highway Traffic Safety Administration researchers are requesting approval for two studies related to speeding.Â
According to a notice (.pdf file) published in the Sept. 13 Federal Register, NHTSA submitted a request to the Office of Management and Budget to conduct a National Survey of Speeding Attitudes and Behavior. The survey would examine the extent to which drivers speed, perceptions about speeding, motivations for speeding and attitudes toward countermeasures that deter speeding.Â
Another proposed research study (.pdf file) aims to analyze systems for automated speed enforcement to determine how existing speed camera programs in the United States were implemented. It also would examine other variables that have affected speed camera programs and determine how those variables have affected the success of programs.
The deadline for comment on the studies is Nov. 12.
