NIOSH promotes work-family balance

Washington – Employer policies such as flexible work schedules that support a work-family balance may help reduce safety risks among employees, according to an article from the Oregon Healthy Workforce Center.

The article states that surveys have found reduced work-family stress is connected to lower injury risk and better safety compliance and participation at work. Tips for helping employees achieve a work-family balance include training managers to be supportive and encouraging flexible schedules.

The article was published July 2 by NIOSH in an electronic newsletter for the agency’s Total Worker Health program, a strategy to improve worker well-being on and off the job.
