Bismarck, ND – Drivers caught texting while driving in North Dakota will face a $100 fine when a new law goes into effect on Aug. 1.
Gov. Jack Dalrymple (R) on April 26 approved House Bill 1195 (.pdf file) to make North Dakota the 31st state to ban texting while driving. According to the Department of Transportation, eight states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands have prohibited all handheld cell phone use while driving.
On the same day, Dalrymple also approved House Bill 1256, which strengthens the state’s licensing process for young drivers.
