Washington – The Office of Management and Budget on April 12 completed its review of OSHA’s final rule on general working conditions for shipyard employment.
The rule would update existing requirements to reflect advancements in industry practices and technology, according to the proposed rule published three years ago. The rule would address issues related to housekeeping, illumination, sanitation, first aid and lockout/tagout. As many as 100,000 workers are potentially exposed to these hazards every year, according to the rule’s abstract.
The final shipyard rule originally was tentatively planned to be published this past January. OMB received the rule Sept. 27. Reviews typically take up to 90 days, but the shipyard rule’s review was extended.
