OSHA recently released standard letters of interpretation covering topics such as underground construction, fall protection and steel erection.
According to an Oct. 1 letter from Acting Director of the Directorate of Construction Ben Bare, Subpart S of the underground construction standard applies during the building of an underground tunnel when a method of pipe installation called “pipejacking” takes place. Pipejacking is a method of installing pipe where the section of lining is installed at the opening of the excavation and is jacked or forced toward the advancing face, according to the letter.
In a Sept. 30 letter on snaphook requirements, Bare explained why OSHA is rescinding letter #20070920-8088, which was based on an ANSI standard.
