OSHA has reduced the number of hours a worker may train in a single day.
The agency’s policy on the Outreach Training Program now directs OSHA trainers to limit class times to 7.5 hours per day. This means a 10-hour program will be required to span at least two days, and a 30-hour program at least four.
The change comes amid concerns that students would sit in class up to 13 hours a day, which could lead to students becoming mentally fatigued and missing “essential” safety and health training, according to an OSHA press release. Prior to the Oct. 27 announcement, no limitations on training hours existed for a single day.
