A new report (.pdf file) from the Office of Compliance estimates at least 6,300 safety and health hazards exist in congressional workplaces for the current Congress.
The number of estimated hazards represents a 30 percent decrease from those found during the 110th Congress (2007-2008). OOC is required to inspect congressional properties for violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act at least once each Congressional session. The latest report, released Tuesday, summarizes the inspections report for the previous Congress and provides a projection of total hazards expected to be found in the 111th Congress.
The report provides numerous suggestions on improving safety and health, including requiring safety and health recordkeeping and protection for employees who report OSHA violations from retaliation.
