Report proposes ways to improve nation’s health

Washington – A new report from Trust for America’s Health offers several recommendations for preventing disease and improving overall health in America.

The health advocacy organization’s report (.pdf file) proposes policy solutions to counteract recent findings that more than half of Americans suffer from at least one chronic disease. According to the report, if the trends continue, today’s children will live shorter and unhealthier lives than their parents.

Recommendations include establishing foundational capabilities for the public health system; encouraging employers to provide evidence-based workplace wellness programs; and ensuring insurance providers reimburse for effective prevention approaches.

The report also addresses key public health issues, including obesity, tobacco use and exposure, infectious diseases, and health in low-income and minority communities.
